Meeting the NFPA 1670 & 1006 Stds. for Technical Rope Rescue “Technician Level”, this NEW 5-Day California Sate Fire Marshal Certified course is suited for those seeking a more advanced understanding of Swiftwater & Flood Incident Management, Special Rescue Victim Access Operations, Remote Area Rescue, Raft/Rescue Boat Handling, Night Operations and Highline Technical Rope Rigging Skills.
Student Requirements
Students must be 18 years old and have a moderate swimming ability to face challenging situations in dynamic water.
No pre-requisite course is required. Although it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of knots, anchors, and mechanical advantage.
Students must have personal medical insurance or department insurance coverage.
Student will need to provide their own wetsuit and footwear for the course. Rentals are available. All other gear is provided for you.
Meeting Location
Unless otherwise notified, we will meet at 9am on the first day of class at the Oxford Suites Chico Hotel Conference Center.
Classroom & Outdoor Training Site: Advanced River Rescue Problems: Lecture/ Videos, Flood Disaster Management, River Trip, Low head dam critique, Basic Swiftwater–1 skills review and rope systems, Rescuer Control Signals, River Rescue Safety Considerations.
Day 2: Winter Course (8am-5pm) or Summer Course (8am-4pm Break 6pm 10pm) for Night Drill
Upper Feather River Canyon: River Survival Swim, Boat Tyrolean System with Stranded Victim Rescue, Victim Search and Rescue mock Incident, Telfer-Line System w/ Stokes for victim extraction, Artificial High-Directional, M/A system, Patient Packaging, Stokes Rigging, Litter Belay and Safety, Optional Night Drill-Search and Rescue Scenario for summer course only.
Day 3: 8am – 5pm
Upper Feather River Canyon: A-Frame Construction, Utilized a Load Release Hitch, Tyrolean Track line “Rope Crawl” with PFD & harness across river, High-Line Tyrolean Extraction Rescue, Double Track–Line, AHD w/ A-Frame, Anchor Selections, M/A tensioning systems, Break Rack Belay Techniques, Raising System Rig, Vector Forces Discussion, Written Test, Wrap-up.
Day 4: 8am – 7pm (Optional Night drill)
Feather River Canyon: River Survival Swim, Boat Tyrolean System with Stranded Victim Rescue, Victim Search and Rescue mock Incident, Telfer-Line System w/ Stokes for victim extraction, Artificial High-Directional, M/A system, Patient Packaging, Stokes Rigging, Litter Belay and Safety, Night Drill-Search and Rescue Scenario.

Logistics
Personal Gear and Wetsuit Rental
We will provide you with a helmet and rescue life-jacket. Your own gear is welcome, but you will need to furnish your own wetsuit or drysuit & shoes (7mm in winter or 3-5mm in summer)
Wetsuit: Rentals about $15/day locally at Scuba Hut 530-636-2644. Located at 2725 Highway 32, Chico. Suits may be fitted and picked-up on the first day of class during the lunch break. We will gladly return your suit for you after the class.
Footwear: Hard sole wetsuit booties or running shoes with ankle support, are recommended. Lightweight hiking boots also work well.
Gloves: You will need to supply your own leather gloves for Rope Rigging Evolutions.
The first day of class will be in the classroom and local river training site
Lecture and rope skills will be information intensive! Plan on getting a good night rest beforehand.
Bring note taking materials: your textbook, handouts and certification/registration paperwork will be provided.
Class refreshments will be provided. However, we will break for lunch in town.
Attire is casual dress, appropriate for public contact, unless otherwise require by your agency.
We will be conducting outdoor rope rigging activities after lunch.
Class Days 2 and 3 on the river!
We will meet at a pre-determined grocery store each morning at 7:30 for students to get lunches and then caravan or carpool to the river training site. River training sites are wild and scenic, restrooms facilities are limited as well as cell phone signals.
Some items to consider bringing with you:

Lots of hydration fluids: A gallon of water and several sports drinks per day, per person.

We will finish up at the river site with a written test and certificate handout. By 6pm, you should be on the road home or traveling back to your hotel.
